In this post I am sharing and easy and quick Sooji halwa recipe which is very common and extremely popular dessert in North India.

I being a North Indian has grown up eating this dessert which my often used to prepare for us whenever we demanded in case we would not want to eat a usual dinner.

Samegoes with my son, when he does not want to eat any regular dinner me or my mom make this instant halwa for him and he relishes it a lot.

This is a very quick and easy recipe which has a richnes of pure desi ghee and the goodness of dry fruits. Hence it is very much loved by the kids and is healthy too duing their growing years.

During Navratri also this halwa is being prepared in almost every North Indian household on Ashtami (eitght day of Navratri) or Navami (9th day of Navratri) where people worship the goddess Durga.

In order to please the goddess people feed and worship the small girls called “Kanjak” or “Kanya Bhoj” (as it is said that they are the young avatars of the goddess). They prepare Sooji Halwa along with kala chana (black grams) and poori as a prasad or bhog to the goddess.

During my childhood I and my friends would be very excited for Navratri as we were being called by almost everyone in our neighbourhood and we would get to eat halwa, poori and chana.
