We usually get this sweet from the popular sweet shops but it is as easy to make at home as it tastes.
Whenever there is a wedding in the family or there is any festival like diwali, rakhshabandhan or even independence day, these laddoos are a kind of must. During childood, we used to get these laddoos on Independce day & Republic day after the Flag Hoisting ceremony in school and we so looked forward for that moment.😊
There is another form of these Easy Motichoor Laddoo which is called “Boondi laddoo” which is also made out of gram flour or besan but the saize of the pearls or boondi is a little bigger in size.As Rakshabandhan is approaching I thought what can be a better occasion to share the recipe of these delicious “Easy Motichoor Laddoo“ and to make these I have not used any special kitchen tool or appliance like any halwai or sweet vendors use.
It can be made with very readily available ingredients and tools which we can find in our kitchens and believe me it will taste as good or may be better than what you get from your favorite sweet shops. I don’t want to brag but the fact is when my husband tasted these laddoos he could not figure out if these are homemade or did i order these from outside. LOL..!!😆

Ingredients:
For making boondi (gram flour pearls):
- 1 cup gram flour (besan)
- A pinch of baking soda
- Water to make thin flowy batter
- Oil or desi ghee for frying
For making sugar syrup:
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- Green cardamoms or cardamom powder
Note/ Tips to follow:
- To make the motichoor laddoos, the size of the boondi should be like tiny pearls. You can use any ladle or jhara for that even the one which is used to fry pooris the way I did. In case the size of the boondi is big, you can grind them in a blender upto a single short swirl. I will make the boondis fine enough to make motichoor laddoos. Else you can order the ladle or jhara from any of the online stores. But because, I have tried to make this recipe as easy as possible with the readily available tools, I would suggest to use the poori frying ladle.
- Instead of adding food colors, you can add saffron strands to get a natural saffron color.
- We don’t need to make a very thick 1 string sugar syrup, We need to heat the water untl the sugar dissolved and the syrup starts to thicken.
- You can increase or decrease the sugar as per your taste.
- Adding food color is completely optional. You can use saffron strands for adding the natural color.
- I would recommend to use Desi ghee to fry the boondi. It will give a rich authentic taste to the laddoos.
Step wise recipe for Easy Motichoor Laddoo:
To make sugar syrup:
1. Heat 2 cups of water in a wide & deep pan and add 1 cup of sugar. Add 2-3 cardamoms and boil it on a low flame until the sugar dissolves. Stir occassionally. We do not need to make 1 string syrup. Once the sugar dissolves heat the it for 4-5 minutes more and turn off the heat. Keep it aside.
To make boondi pearls or motichoor:
1. Take 1 cup besan in a mixing bowl and add a pinch of baking soda.
2. Add water gradually and keep whisking to avoid lumps to make a smooth batter.
3. Make a thin & flowy batter as shown in the picture.
4. Now, heat desi ghee or oil in a kadhai. Take a poori frying ladle and keep it over the kadhai. Slowly start pouring the batter through it using a spoon.
5. Fry the batter on a low flame to make boondis. Do not over fry it as we do not want them to change the color.
6. Keep stirring using a spatula for about half a minute and take out from the kadhai. Repeat the process for the remaining batter.
7. If the size of the boondi pearls is not fine enough, grind it in a mixer for one short swirl. We do not need to grind them back to the powder form.
8. Now, add the boondi pearls to the warm sugar syrup and mix well so that the pearls are soaked well in the syrup. Keep it aside for 15-20 minutes. If the sugar syrup is not warm enough, heat it for a few seconds on a low flame.
9. After 20 minutes, mix the ingredients together well gently. Now, take a small portion of the boondi mixture and bind it together to make laddoos. Garnish with the dry fruits of your choice and keep in the refrigerator for 15 minutes to set before eating.
